Tex-Mex Refried Pinto Beans

    Tex-Mex Refried Beans are a delicious, smoky, and creamy bean dip that works perfectly as an appetizer or side dish and is incredibly easy to make. Customize this flavorful dish with your favorite tomato-based salsa for a personal touch!

    Step1

    Finely chop 4 pieces of raw bacon and add them to a large heavy-bottomed pot or cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Cook the bacon until it turns golden brown, making sure not to cook it all the way through.

    Step2

    Add half of a diced yellow onion to the bacon, frying until it turns translucent. Add in 1 minced garlic clove cooking a minute or two longer.

    Step3

    Next, add 2 teaspoons of chili powder, 1/2 cup of chicken broth, and 1/2 cup of your favorite Salsa to the pot stirring until combined. Add in 2 cans of drained pinto beans and season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir everything together until well combined and bring it to a boil.

    Step4

    Cook the beans until the liquid reduces and thickens.

    Step5

    Mash the beans with a potato masher, stirring and mashing until you reach your desired consistency.

    Step6

    Serve and enjoy!
