Delicious beef patty, fried Spam with caramelized pineapple ring, lettuce, Pepper Jack cheese, Hawaiian sweet bread bun & Hawaiian BBQ sauce & mayonnaise.

Ingredients

    Directions

There’s something about a Hawaiian burger that just makes people smile. Maybe it’s the sweet‑and‑savory combo, maybe it’s the golden pineapple, or maybe it’s the fact that Spam somehow becomes the star of the show. This version is my go‑to: juicy beef patties, caramelized pineapple, crispy Spam, melty cheese, and a toasted bun that ties it all together. It’s simple, a little nostalgic, and always a crowd‑pleaser — the kind of backyard burger that disappears the second it hits the table.

    Step1

Prepare all your ingredients. Slice the Spam into 1/2‑inch thick pieces so they cook evenly. You can use BBQ sauce for a classic flavor, or swap in teriyaki sauce.

    Step2

Form the ground beef into 1/4‑pound patties. Press a small indentation into the center of each patty to keep them from puffing up as they cook. Shape the patties slightly larger than your buns so they shrink to the perfect size on the grill. Season with salt and pepper, keeping in mind that the Spam adds its own salty kick.

    Step3

Preheat your cooking surface — whether you’re using a griddle, skillet, or grill. I’m using a griddle today, set to medium‑high heat. Once it’s hot, lightly coat the surface with nonstick spray so the burgers don’t stick. Add the patties and let them cook undisturbed for a few minutes to develop a flavorful crust. At the same time, add the Spam slices to the griddle and cook them for a few minutes on each side until they’re browned to your liking.

    Step4

Add the pineapple rings to the griddle and cook them until they’re lightly golden and juicy, about 2–3 minutes per side. They should caramelize slightly but still hold their shape.

    Step5

Add a slice of cheese to each burger patty, then place the buns cut‑side down on the griddle. Cook until the cheese is melted and the buns are toasted and golden.

    Step6

Remove everything from the heat and assemble. Spread mayonnaise on the bottom bun, then add lettuce, burger patty next, Spam slice, pineapple slice and spread a generous amount of barbecue sauce on the top bun. Enjoy!
